International Day of Innocent children victims of aggression

The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is an annual United Nations observance which occurs on 4th June. The whole and sole purpose of celebrating this day is to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.

It was established on 19th August 1982 when The General Assembly on its 31st plenary meeting held on 19th August 1982 considered the question of Palestine at its resumed seventh emergency special session. The nations were appalled at the great number of innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children, who were victims of Israel's acts of aggression and decided to commemorate 4 June of each year as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.

According to the United Nations, in China the statistics of child abuse includes more than two million children killed in conflicts in the last two decades. About 10 million child refugees are cared for by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). In the Latin America and in the Caribbean region about 80 thousand children die annually from violence within the family.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides us with the universal master plan to secure a better future for children. The new agenda includes for the first time a specific target to end all forms of violence against children, and ending the abuse, neglect and exploitation of children is mainstreamed across several other violence-related targets. This was said by United Nations in 2019

The most common violations are recruitment and use of children in war, killing, sexual violence, abduction, attacks on schools and hospitals, and denial of humanitarian access. This was also stated by the United Nations in 2019.

We can help by raising awareness in our community about the realities of violence and the importance of peace. We have the right to hold the elected officials accountable. We should exercise our right to freedom of expression and share our opinions with our elected representatives.
