Write-A-Letter (Post 2/Part 2)
Dear A.,
I'm doing good but I'm sorry to hear about
your predicament. I had a cousin who had Osteoporosis and even he could not
consume dairy products. It aches my heart to hear that someone like you who
used to love playing in the sun would be victim to the cruel nature of fate.
Yet, I must inform you that this does not come as a surprise to me because it
is a known fact that more than 80% of the Indian population suffers from
Vitamin D deficiency. The irony of a country whose people thrive under the
glory of the sun. You must already know the consequences of a Vitamin D
deficiency, which ultimately leads to our body's inability to absorb Calcium.
Moreover, for someone like you who was lactose intolerant, this must have been
a double shock. I'm no expert on these issues, but because of my cousin I know
a thing or two and I would love to share that with you.
Apart from the medical treatment that your
doctor recommends for you, there are a few things that you can do and consume
that might help you to treat your Osteoporosis. Supplements like red clover,
soy, and black cohosh, can be used for bone health. However, before using these
supplements, be sure to talk to your doctor because they might not be suitable
for your case. Eat a lot of green leafy vegetables, protein-like soybean and
have Vitamin D rich egg yolks and fish like salmon.
I wish I could be there with you and help you
out in some manner. Please do let me know if there's anything that I can do for
you.
Yours Sincerely,
D.
