Not all Celebrities receive Positive Comments on their Appearance - PART 1

ALY RAISMAN

“You can’t let someone dictate the way you feel about yourself, It just makes me mad that I was so insecure about it for so long because my arms made me one of the best gymnasts in the world, so I would never do anything to change that."

Aly Raisman is beautiful, bold and has an airy flair, for she is one of the best gymnasts in the world.  She captained Team USA’s final five and has three Olympic gold medals to her name, but even a top athlete like Aly Raisman faces unsolicited and critical comments about her body. She was bashed because she was too muscular and was called as ‘masculine’. In fifth grade, all the boys in her class told her that she looked like she was on steroids or that she was anorexic, and then in seventh grade, she was wearing a tank top at school and one of the boys told her that her arms were disgusting. Aly believes that the society is disdaining and will always pull you down.
Raisman stopped wearing certain clothing items because of her arms but she urges others not to do so. She advises girls across the masses to accept their bodies the way it is. Everyone has insecurities, but as she grew older, she learnt to appreciate and celebrate her body. Raisman says that there is no point of longing for a ‘perfect’ body. Young girls should be taught that there’s no ideal body type. Everyone is beautiful. When one starts to appreciate their bodies and decides to be themselves then there’s no looking back.

MALLIKA DUA

“It is easy, ‘nah’ fashionable, to sit behind an anonymous screen, and post lewd comments online. Bravado is it? Well! Yes, if you see how some of the trolls gloat when they make personal and derogatory remarks against you; for body shaming you.”

Comedy and jollity are necessary to stay buoyant and sane. A few individuals today still have the misconception that it’s okay to mock comedians on their body and figure because it's comedy! Mocking anyone on their body is not okay. Mallika Dua, a bona fide millennial star and comedian has been a frequent target for body shamers. However, Mallika Dua is very candid about being plus size and how she strives to change the way female comedians are perceived.

She rarely pays heed to the body shaming she receives, and she promotes this as well. When people stop paying attention to shrewd comments, the hype and attention will automatically die. However, this stigma of fat-shaming and body-shaming is still there in casting. For instance, if she’s called for a part, inherently the character is fat.

At first, she was extremely snappish because when you work extremely hard for something and expect that people will like it, but some bogus people pass embittering comments. She doesn’t let the trolls get to her.  But she's in no hurry to change herself. She will never lose weight under peer pressure and even if she loses pounds, it will happen because she wants to become healthier and is bored of her looks. A voice behind the internet can’t change the superwoman you are inside.

As a response to her trolls, Mallika released a short music video to not just slam her haters by her wit and intellect, but to inspire the girls across the masses. She is effortlessly herself. The Makeup Didi’s idea of self-love is so buttressing. She urges people to take a stand for themselves and rather than passing vague comments, they should spread positivity. Body Shaming is disdaining, its ad nauseam. Instead of hurrying to change the way you look, just continue being the sassy you!

SONAKSHI SINHA

Affluence, fame and growing up in an environment where people always support you is something that people today believe is a perfect life. Being the daughter of Shatrughan Sinha, a distinguished and well-established actor, doesn’t mean that things are always easy for Sonakshi Sinha. Sonakshi was pilloried because she wasn’t able to meet the standard beauty benchmarks. She often ponders on how people have the audacity to pass nasty comments on your body. If people start disparaging and derogating on her face, then she knows how to handle them. She doesn’t let body shaming get to her because she knows her worth is more than her weight and size. Sonakshi Sinha was body shamed when she was in school. School is the place where we feel safe and strive to become better persons but in Sonakshi’s case, it became a place of torment. However she never let them destroy her self-esteem.

Before entering into the limelight, Sonakshi lost 30 kg, but after her first film, talks about her weight became the new hot topic, and still people body shamed her. People have not seen the half of her efforts, the blood, sweat and tears that went into reducing her weight. She believes that if people are not satisfied to see her, then they shouldn’t see her, she won’t change her body just because of some nasty comments. Sonakshi’s response to mean and spiritless comments are highly admirable and substantial. Her idea of self-love and not letting a few nasty comments deprive you of your self-esteem are highly appreciable. The perfect body is your own body and it’s the pick of the bunch. The proclivity of loving and appreciating your body is the best thing. Stay strong and be grateful for being yourself.

Stay tuned for Part 2 to realise that even fame doesn't shut people from commenting on their bodies, it's their attitude towards those comments that shut people and let them reach greater heights through inner talent and beauty.
