Adolescence - A Period of Bumps and Humps (Symposium Series)

G. Stanley Hall, a great pioneering American psychologist and educator of his time defines Adolescence as "the time when an individual 'recapitulates' the savage stage of the race's past." And truly, this stage is full of joyful and savage experiences. But what many others often tend to neglect are the stumbling blocks of this phase. Teenagers see themselves stuck between two phases; not being a kid anymore but not being an adult either. And so, rises the confusion, vulnerability, and at the very core, an identity crisis. With a constant pressure from friends, family and social media, teenagers are consumed by a generalised feeling of low self-esteem and desolation.

With a common aim of making the teenage years as wonderful as they should be, Advance Healthcare Foundation works in the direction of raising awareness in our society. Several efforts have been made by the NGO in the past and our Adolescence Development Club is an active contributor towards the betterment of adolescents.  Several successful symposiums has been conducted in various cities at regular intervals throughout last year.

Our symposium series titled "Adolescence - A Period of Bumps and Humps" received due recognition from Hon'ble Health Minister of India, Dr. Harsh Vardhan who has accorded us as one of the best health care training centres in India. The acknowledgement of our work is also evident in the letter of appreciation presented to us by Honourable Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat. These letters of appreciation have worked as motivators for us.

Here are some highlights of the Symposiums conducted so far:
Our interactive symposium on
4th May 2019 aimed at creating more understanding about the mental, physical and emotional changes during adolescence through interactive sessions with a galaxy of senior doctors, was covered in many renowned newspapers and was attended by a large audience.

The symposium on 23rd October 2019 at India International Centre, New Delhi with Dr. Eish Singhal (DCP, New Delhi) as guest speaker and Dr. Kiran Sharma from the World Health Organisation as panelist, apart from doctors experts in their domains to interact with students, topped with theme dance as creative communication was a tremendous success with students from more than 30 schools from Delhi NCR taking part!

Starting the new year with the same enthusiasm, the first symposium of the year was organised on 1st February 2020 in Dehradun where the chief guests were Mr. Premchand Aggarwal (Speaker, UK Legislative Assembly) and Mr. Sunil Uniyal (Mayor, Dehradun)

Another event saw a part of the symposium, that was on the occasion of Delhi Police Week on 22 February 2020 at Rajiv Chowk which saw a large turnout and was quite successful with all the dignitaries and audience pledging to work towards building a better world, by putting in efforts to make the earth an abode of fraternity, equality, liberty and humanity.

These events were held to unclench the teenagers and also to guide them on how to deal with the hardships of the adolescence period. Adolescence is a journey full of exuberance and so as to help the youth enjoy it, we at Advance Healthcare Foundation aim to ease their misery and make adolescence a simple and uncomplicated journey for them!
